Dear Members and Friends,
This is an important time for Community Christian Church. In the past year we came to the end of our prior five year strategic plan. We accomplished much in the past few years, but it's now the job of a new strategic planning committee to look forward five years. This committee has been busy over the past few months getting organized and reviewing where we were and where we are now.
The 2004 Strategic Plan adopted by the congregation was ambitious and successful. We created Vision and Mission Statements. We adopted a new constitution to align the work and structure of the congregation, while creating a more flexible organization. We also shifted the election of new officers to the middle of the year to align with the annual program cycle. Our involvement in the Lincolnshire community has increased as well.
In order to see where God is leading us in these next five years, we need your insights and opinions. This package includes a survey which we trust you will prayerfully consider, answer, and then share with us. Please take note of the enclosed financial and demographic information. All responses will be anonymous and a report summarizing the results will be available. Additional copies of the survey may be picked up at the church office or downloaded and printed from the church website on the Strategic Planning page. A link to an online edition will also be posted on this page.
We will have group discussions after we collect this initial congregational data. We hope to have reports prepared for the Board to forward to the congregation by May 2010. While we plan for substantive congregational participation in the process, with the resignation of Pastor Kory we recognize an even greater need to be sensitive to our changing context and to be fully transparent.
The task for our Team is to make recommendations to the Board. So far the Team has tentatively identified aspects related to how we understand ourselves and what direction God calls us. A clearer self-understanding and sense of direction will be valuable as the Pastoral Search Team evaluates candidates and selects one to recommend to the Board and Congregation.
